Castell de Bairén, Medieval castle near Gandia, Spain.
The fortress stands on a hilltop, divided into three sections including a citadel, settlement nucleus, and a medina with protective walls.
Built in the late 10th century during the Al-Andalus period, this fortress served as the first capital of the territory before Gandia.
Archaeological excavations at the site have uncovered numerous artifacts from different periods, now displayed at the Archaeological Museum of Gandia.
Guided tours lasting 90 minutes are available on weekends at 10:00 and 12:00, with advance reservations required for groups of 10 to 25 people.
From its strategic position, the castle provides views of the entire coastline from Dénia to Cullera, including the wetlands and L'Ullal.
