Funicular de Río de la Pila

The Funicular de Rio de la Pila connects the lower part of Santander with higher districts through four stops along a 78-meter vertical journey.

The funicular railway opened in 2008 with a budget of 4 million euros, requiring the relocation of 15 families from buildings that were later demolished.

Local residents use this transport system as a reference point and meeting location while navigating through the different levels of Santander's urban landscape.

Operating daily from 6:00 AM to midnight, this free transport service accommodates 20 passengers per trip and allows bicycles in designated areas.

The only funicular in Cantabria includes mechanical escalators leading to its lower station and provides access to El Regimiento football field.
