Embalse de Crevillente, stuwmeer in Alicante, Spanje
The Embalse de Crevillente is a reservoir in Alicante province that stores water from the Canal de Crevillente for regional water management. The dam is an earth structure approximately 360 meters (1,180 feet) long and about 54 meters (177 feet) tall, designed to regulate water flow across the valley.
Planning for the reservoir began in the 1970s to improve water management in the region. Construction took place during the 1980s and was completed in 1986 to serve agricultural irrigation and local water supply needs.
The reservoir is easily accessible from roads CN-330 and the A-7 highway, located about 1.5 kilometers (roughly 1 mile) from the town center. Visitors can walk or cycle on paths around the water, especially on weekends, with parking areas near the dam structure.
The reservoir is fed primarily by the Tajo-Segura water transfer rather than the Barranco del Boch creek, which flows only after significant rainfall. A pumping station with an underground tunnel lifts water when needed, ensuring reliable supply even in the region's dry climate.
