Cruz de los Caídos, War memorial at Doctor Gadea Avenue, Alicante, Spain
Cruz de los Caídos is a stone cross structure located at a traffic roundabout between Doctor Gadea and Federico Soto avenues near Plaza Calvo Sotelo. The memorial consists of a central vertical column with a crossbeam mounted on a base within the urban street network.
The monument was built in 1939 and inaugurated on June 9, 1940, as a memorial to a significant period of Spanish history. In 1987, its original inscription was revised to honor all victims of the conflict.
The inscription honors all those who died during the conflict, regardless of political side. This inclusive dedication makes the memorial a place of reconciliation for Alicante residents.
The memorial stands at a clearly visible location within a roundabout in central Alicante and serves as an easy landmark for orientation. You can see it from multiple street approaches and access it by foot or by car without difficulty.
The structure was designed by architects Miguel López González and Miguel Abad Miró and displays notable craftsmanship in stone work. This technical and artistic quality distinguishes it from other memorials in the city.
