Embalse de La Chorrera is a small reservoir in Guadalajara Province with a concrete dam rising to about 31 meters in height. The water mirrors the sky, surrounded by forests and rocky hillsides that create a calm setting.
The dam was originally built to create a hydroelectric plant for powering nearby towns. The project was abandoned after leaks were discovered in the structure, leaving it unused for decades.
The name refers to the waterfalls and streams that flow in this area. Today, locals and visitors use the reservoir for quiet walks and outdoor gatherings, with families often bringing food to share beside the water.
The site is accessible by well-maintained walking trails with parking areas at entry points, though it lacks standard tourist facilities. Check conditions beforehand and bring what you need for a day outdoors.
A water control system called Presa del Poveda was planned nearby to regulate river flow but never fully completed. Walking here, you notice vegetation gradually reclaiming the abandoned structures, with plants growing through broken concrete sections.
