The Gabinete Literario occupies a neo-classical building with modernist elements at Plaza de Cairasco 1 in the historic center of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Founded in 1844 during the reign of Isabel II, the institution began as Gabinete Literario de Fomento y de Recreo de Las Palmas under president Roberto Houghton.
The venue maintains a collection of 14,000 books and displays numerous portraits of notable figures, including works by Manuel González Méndez and Eliseo Meifrén Roig.
The building functions as a multipurpose venue that accommodates up to 250 people for concerts, exhibitions, literary presentations, and social gatherings throughout the year.
The Red Room on the first floor preserves a collection of portraits depicting cultural figures, including Benito Pérez Galdós and Viera y Clavijo.
