Ermita de San Miguel, San Cristóbal de La Laguna

The Ermita de San Miguel is a hermitage in San Cristóbal de La Laguna featuring a single nave covered by a coffered ceiling with collar beam construction. The building includes two symmetrical bell gables on the facade corners and maintains an uninterrupted interior design without a dividing transverse arch.

Founded in 1506, this hermitage initially functioned as a family burial chapel and hosted the first meetings of the Island Cabildo. This dual purpose highlights its importance during the city's founding period.

The entrance presents an ornately carved arch with stone pilasters framing a relief cross from 1759. This decorated portal reflects the craftsmanship and devotional focus of its time.

The interior features two sets of stone steps, with an initial flight of three steps leading to an intermediate level before entering the main chapel area. Take note of these level changes when visiting, particularly if you have any mobility concerns.

The entire interior maintains an uninterrupted architectural flow without the traditional transverse arch that typically divides chapel spaces into separate sections. This uncommon layout creates a fluid, unified space rarely seen in structures of this scale.
