Mossèn Costa i Llobera Gardens, Succulent botanical garden on Montjuïc hill, Spain
The six-hectare garden contains more than 800 species of cacti and succulent plants arranged along terraced slopes overlooking Barcelona's coastline.
The garden opened in 1970 as a collaboration between architect Joaquim Maria Casamor and succulent plant expert Joan Pañella to showcase desert flora.
The garden bears the name of Miquel Costa i Llobera, a Mallorcan poet and priest who studied law and participated in Barcelona's literary events.
The gardens maintain a temperature two degrees warmer than surrounding areas, creating favorable conditions for desert and tropical plant species.
The garden houses specimens like Astrophytum miryostigma cacti, which display star patterns and produce yellow flowers throughout the year.
