Punta Sardina Lighthouse, Maritime beacon in Sardina del Norte, Gran Canaria, Spain.
Punta Sardina Lighthouse is an artificial structure in Sardina del Norte on Gran Canaria with a white cylindrical tower broken by four red bands. The facility sits on an elevated position with a grey metallic lantern at its peak.
The facility was built in 1891 as part of a comprehensive lighthouse network for the Canary Islands. A modernized version replaced the original structure in 1985 and has served the same purpose since.
The lighthouse shaped the development of the harbor community, where fishermen moored their boats and local traders conducted their business. The structure became central to how the town connected with the sea.
The light emits four white flashes at regular intervals and is visible from a considerable distance under good conditions. The location is easy to spot from the water and serves ships as an important navigation point along the coast.
Ocean currents have carved natural pools at the structure's base that function like water mirrors. These pools shimmer in different shades from blue through green to ochre, creating a striking contrast against the rock.
