Palace and Tower of Valdés Salas, Medieval palace in Salas, Spain

The Palace and Tower of Valdés Salas are linked by an arched bridge decorated with family coats of arms that spans between the two structures. The complex includes multiple rooms and courtyards that reveal the layout of a wealthy household from the Renaissance period.

Fernando de Valdés Salas, founder of the University of Oviedo and Spain's chief Inquisitor, lived in this palace during the 1500s. The building reflects the influence of a family that held power at the highest levels of royal and religious authority.

The palace displays objects from the nearby church of San Martín within its chapel space, connecting the town's religious and residential history. Visitors can see how sacred and domestic spaces were intertwined in this building.

Today the complex operates as a hotel and houses the town's Tourist Information Office and Cultural Center. Visitors can explore the rooms and collection while accessing the services and facilities available for guests and travelers.

The building contains a trapezoidal inner courtyard where wooden columns support balconies with hand-turned balusters around the perimeter. This craftsmanship reveals the investment in quality and detail that was made in constructing such a residence.
