The stone and bronze monument features a female figure representing Zaragoza, with an angel holding a fallen Aragonese warrior at the top.
Inaugurated in 1904, this monument replaced the Cruz del Coso, which was destroyed during the Sieges of Zaragoza in the early 19th century.
The memorial combines religious martyrdom and civic heroism through sculptures designed by Ricardo Magdalena and executed by Agustín Querol.
The 8-meter tall monument stands in the center of Plaza España, near the Palacio de Sástago and Teatro Principal.
The octagonal base transforms into a circular shape resembling a fortified tower, featuring the inscription VICTRIX CESARAUGUSTAE PIETAS INNUMERIS MARTIRIBUS.
