Pozo Airón, Waterfall in Pereña de la Ribera, Spain
Pozo Airón is a waterfall in Arribes del Duero Natural Park featuring three cascades that plunge roughly 50 meters into a deep canyon between Salamanca and Zamora provinces. The water flows through the Arroyo de los Cuernos stream within a Mediterranean microclimate zone dotted with olive trees, almez, junipers, and rockroses.
Near the waterfall stands the Molino de la Culebra, an 18th-century mill that demonstrates how local communities harnessed the water for agricultural work. This waterpower was crucial for the region's economic development.
The name Pozo Airón refers to the mist that forms when water plunges into the gorge, creating a visible haze from nearby vantage points.
The site is accessible via two hiking paths from either Masueco or Pereña de la Ribera, each offering different difficulty levels. Autumn brings higher water flow from seasonal rainfall, though trails may be wet and slippery during this time.
The waterfall's name comes from the distinctive mist plume created by the cascading water, a phenomenon most visible on dry days when contrast makes it stand out. This natural spray display is one of the site's most striking features that visitors often photograph.
