Museo de la Siderurgia y la Minería de Castilla y León

Museo de la Siderurgia y la Minería de Castilla y León, Mining and iron industry museum in Sabero, Spain

The Museo de la Siderurgia y la Minería de Castilla y León occupies the former Ferrería de San Blas building and displays the techniques and processes of iron production and mining that shaped this region. The building itself shows the layout of an early industrial facility with preserved work areas and structures.

The building was constructed between 1846 and 1847 and was Spain's first industrial facility to use coke in iron production. This innovation made this location an important center for early industrial development in the region.

The displays show how people settled in the valley over time, from Celtic populations through medieval times to modern industry. You can see how mining and iron work became central to the life and identity of this community.

The museum sits in the town center of Sabero and is easy to reach on foot. It is helpful to check opening times in advance since hours can change seasonally.

The museum displays original machinery from the old ironworks that shows how physically demanding and dangerous the work was. Interactive models allow visitors to understand the complexity of these early industrial processes firsthand.
