Pico Yordas, Mountain summit in Cordillera Cantabrica, Spain.
Pico Yordas rises to 1,964 meters (6,444 feet) above sea level in the Cordillera Cantabrica. The mountain transitions from beech forests at lower elevations to rocky exposed terrain as you approach the summit.
The mountain has long served as a natural reference point between valleys in the León region. Its position made it important for orientation and movement through the high terrain of the Cantabrian mountains.
Local residents use different names for the peak depending on which valley they call home. These naming variations reflect how mountain communities developed their own languages and traditions across the region.
The trail starts from the village of Liegos and is clearly marked throughout the ascent. You will find a water source partway up that makes for a good rest spot during the climb.
From the summit you can see contrasting landscapes spread across the horizon, from lakes and streams to distant mountain ranges. On clear days you can even spot the Picos de Europa in the distance.
