Peña Remoña, Mountain summit in Picos de Europa National Park, Spain

Peña Remoña is a limestone peak in the Central Massif of the Picos de Europa, in Cantabria. It forms a large limestone wall above the glacial cirque of Fuente Dé, and the river Deva rises at its foot. At 2,247 m, it is the third-highest peak entirely within Cantabrian territory.

Shepherds have used the paths here since the Middle Ages to move their flocks between mountain pastures. These ancient routes became established over many generations and remain visible today.

The name Fuente Dé comes from the river Deva, which rises at the foot of Peña Remoña. Further downstream the Deva marks the border between Cantabria and Asturias, so the peak's water feeds a river that divides two autonomous communities.

Marked trails lead from the village of Fuente De to the summit and require solid endurance and basic climbing skill. Weather in the mountains changes fast, so hikers should dress in layers and watch for storm clouds.

From the summit you can see the entire central ridge of Picos de Europa, with neighboring peaks Torre Alcacero and Torre Blanca standing out before you. These panoramic views reward the effort of climbing.
