Morra de Lechugales

Morra de Lechugales is a 2444 meter peak located in the Eastern Massif of Picos de Europa. A large oblique limestone block runs along its ridge, creating a distinctive formation.

The mountain was shaped during the Carboniferous period by tectonic movements that created the structure of the Cantabrian mountain range. These geological events built the foundation for the dramatic topography visible today.

The summit marks a waypoint that shepherds from Asturias and Cantabria have long relied on while managing their grazing herds across these mountains. Local communities continue to recognize this peak as part of their pastoral landscape.

Climbers can reach the summit via multiple routes, with the main trail from Vegas de Sotres taking about ten hours round trip. Sturdy boots and mountain experience are needed, as the paths are steep and rocky.

The summit features a ten-meter rocky section graded UIAA II+ to III-, secured by a fixed rope. This rope was installed in 2013 to assist climbers during their descent.
