Fuente Dé cable car, Aerial tramway in Camaleño, Spain.
Fuente Dé cable car is an aerial tramway system in the Picos de Europa that connects two stations across different elevations. The ride carries visitors upward from the lower terminal to a high-altitude viewpoint overlooking the surrounding mountains.
This cable car system was built in the 1960s to bring visitors to higher mountain elevations. The project grew from a desire to make the upper Picos de Europa more accessible to the general public.
The cable car emerged from José Antonio Odriozola's vision, former president of the Spanish Mountaineering Federation, to connect visitors with the Picos de Europa mountains.
The ride is quite short, taking only a few minutes to travel from the lower to the upper terminal. Once you arrive at the top, you can explore on foot or simply enjoy the views from the station area.
The cable car overcomes an unusually large change in elevation along its route in a single span without intermediate stations. This engineering solution allows visitors to climb from a much lower altitude to a significantly higher one in a short time.
