Pico de los Cabrones, Mountain summit in Cantabrian Mountains, Spain
Pico de los Cabrones is a mountain in the Sierra del Cornión within the Cantabrian Mountains, rising to approximately 2558 meters (8391 feet). The north face drops steeply with jagged rock walls, while the southern slope is more gradual and offers several climbing routes of varying difficulty.
The first documented ascent took place in 1933 when Emilio Ribera Pou and Carlos Mier reached the summit. Since then, the mountain has gained steady attention from climbers seeking to tackle its technical challenges.
The mountain stands as a symbol of regional mountaineering traditions, attracting climbers who seek to master its technical routes and challenging terrain.
Check the weather before heading out, as conditions can change quickly and fog often reduces visibility on the upper slopes. Sturdy hiking boots and proper climbing gear are needed for the steeper routes, particularly on the north face.
The peak is part of a challenging ridge traverse that connects to neighboring summits across the Cabrones-Cerredo crest. This traverse ranks among the most technically demanding multi-peak routes in the Picos de Europa, offering experiences similar to high alpine expeditions.
