Pico Tesorero, Mountain summit in Picos de Europa, Spain
Pico Tesorero is a pyramid-shaped summit in the central Picos de Europa massif in northern Spain, rising to 2,568 meters. The peak dominates the landscape with its distinctive silhouette and sits surrounded by deep valleys and vertical rock faces.
The summit gets its name from an old legend about hidden treasure. Herders have walked paths around and through this region for centuries, creating the trail network that exists today.
Local mountaineering traditions maintain specific guidelines for ascending Pico Tesorero, including designated overnight spots and established climbing protocols.
The climb typically starts from the Fuente Dé cable car station. Conditions are best from June through September when weather is stable and snow has melted from the paths.
From the peak you can see across three Spanish provinces at once: Asturias, Cantabria, and Leon. This central location makes it a rare point in the mountains where these regions meet.
