Museo de la Fauna Salvaje, Wildlife museum in Boñar, Spain
The Museo de la Fauna Salvaje is a building in Boñar that displays wild animals from around the world, including mammals, primates, reptiles, and insects in recreated natural habitats. The collections are arranged in detailed dioramas with painted natural environments.
The museum was constructed in the early 2000s as a collaborative effort between local authorities, the city, and the University of Leon. The completion of this project took several years from initial planning to opening.
The displays present animal species from five continents through hand-painted dioramas showing how different creatures inhabit their natural environments and interact with the landscape.
The site features a library, gift shop, restaurant, and outdoor seating areas for visitors. You will find everything you need to spend several hours comfortably at the facility.
In the forests surrounding the museum, there is an open-air enclosure where visitors can observe living wild animals such as deer, wild boars, mouflon, and Iberian wolves. This living component adds another dimension to the exhibits inside.
