Playa de La Laja, Urban beach in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain.
Playa de La Laja is a black sand beach in Las Palmas stretching approximately 1.2 kilometers along the coast. Breakwaters positioned in the central and southern sections protect the shoreline, while mountains rise prominently in the background.
The beach underwent a major redesign in 2011, which included the installation of a prominent sculpture depicting the Roman god Triton. This transformation shaped the appearance of the space as it exists today.
The beach serves as a gathering place for residents from nearby San Cristóbal and San José neighborhoods, where families and friends spend their leisure time together. This location holds a central place in the daily rhythm of the local community.
Parking spaces are available at both ends of the beach, making access straightforward for visitors. During summer months, lifeguards are present to ensure visitor safety in the water.
Just north of the main beach lie natural rock pools where seawater collects, creating sheltered bathing spots separate from the open shore. These pools vary in depth and offer a distinct swimming experience.
