Parque del Andarax

Parque del Andarax is a sprawling green space in eastern Almería featuring diverse recreation areas and natural elements throughout. The grounds include a large pond, an extensive network of cycling routes, and thousands of trees that provide shade and define the landscape.

The land underwent transformation from intensive agricultural use to public park in the early 2000s through a formal agreement between the city and the regional water authority. This conversion allowed formerly farmed terrain to become a recreational and natural space for residents.

The park serves as a social hub where people regularly gather for walks, family outings, and casual meetings throughout the day. The green spaces and pathways see constant use from locals who spend their free time here and enjoy being outdoors.

The site is easy to navigate with pathways for walkers and cyclists and plenty of benches to rest along the way. Visitors will find public restrooms, children's play areas, and picnic spots with barbecue facilities spread throughout the space.

The park was created on land previously devoted to intensive farming where water for irrigation was scarce. The transformation into water features and green space demonstrates how the region adapted its approach to water management and land use.
