The plaza sits at the junction of several old streets including Calle Zapatería, Cava and Santiago, making it a natural orientation point. This central location makes it easy to explore the old town from here or move toward other parts of the city center.

Beneath the plaza lie traces of continuous settlement dating back to the Bronze Age, including remains of a medieval Almohad quarter. These archaeological findings show that the ground below held importance to the city's life across many centuries.
