Punta del Moral, Coastal locality and beach in Province of Huelva, Spain
Punta del Moral is a small coastal settlement in the Province of Huelva, on the Costa de la Luz, close to the Portuguese border, with a wide beach of fine pale sand. The village sits on a slight rise above sea level and has its own fishing harbor at the mouth of the Guadiana River.
The settlement began as a fishing community that depended on the waters of the Guadiana estuary and the nearby Atlantic coast. During the 20th century it gradually took on a role as a coastal destination while the fishing fleet continued to operate from the harbor.
The small harbor nearby is still a working port, and in the early morning fishermen unload their catch directly onto the dock. The restaurants along the waterfront serve the same fish and shellfish a few hours later, giving the meal a direct connection to the sea.
The beach has lifeguards and marked swimming zones in summer, and most of the local facilities are within easy walking distance from the shore. Because the village is small, it is easy to get around on foot without needing any transport.
From the shore, the castle of Castro Marim on the Portuguese side of the Guadiana is visible to the naked eye, making this one of the few beaches where you can clearly see another country from the sand. The river itself marks the border, and small boats sometimes cross between the two banks.
