Tomb of Christopher Columbus, Memorial tomb in Seville Cathedral, Spain
The elevated tomb features four pallbearers representing the kingdoms of Castile, León, Aragon, and Navarre carrying a bronze casket containing Columbus's remains.
Following his death in 1506, Columbus's remains traveled through several locations including Valladolid, Santo Domingo, and Havana before arriving in Seville Cathedral in 1899.
Spanish sculptor Arturo Mélida y Alinari designed this elaborate monument in 1891, incorporating maritime elements and heraldic symbols that reflect the Spanish exploration period.
Visitors can access the tomb through the cathedral entrance, with guided tours available in multiple languages explaining the memorial's details and surrounding architecture.
DNA tests conducted on the remains within the tomb confirmed their connection to Columbus's brother Diego, validating the authenticity of the explorer's remains.
