Puigsacalm, Mountain summit in La Garrotxa, Spain

Puigsacalm is a 1,515-metre summit in the municipality of La Vall d'en Bas, La Garrotxa, and the highest point of the Serralada Transversal. A geodesic vertex (reference 29409001) stands on the top, which is listed among the FEEC's 100 Cims. Routes reach it from the Collada de Bracons at 1,132 metres via the Font Tornadissa, or from Joanetes at 600 metres via the Puig dels Llops.

In the late 18th century, Puigsacalm was one of the vertices where surveyors took readings and carried out triangulations to measure the meridian passing through Dunkerque, Paris and Barcelona, the work that fixed the length of the metre. The summit now holds a geodetic vertex, reference 29409001, and the peak is listed among the 100 summits of the FEEC.

The summit draws hikers and outdoor enthusiasts from the surrounding region who gather here to share their passion for mountain exploration. The trails themselves represent a connection to the natural landscape that locals have valued for generations.

Reaching the summit requires a good fitness level and sure footing, especially on sections with chains and steep terrain near the top. Starting early in the day is wise to ensure you have sufficient daylight for hiking and returning safely.

The mountain is surrounded by a beech forest where some trees exceed 200 years of age and tower to considerable heights. This ancient woodland creates a thick canopy that shades the lower slopes throughout the year.
