Casa del Pavo, Art Nouveau building in central Alcoy, Spain
Casa del Pavo is a Valencian Art Nouveau building at 15 Sant Nicolau Street in Alcoy with five floors and iron peacock sculptures flanking the main entrance. The ornate exterior displays characteristic features of this architectural style with decorative ironwork and detailed embellishments throughout the facade.
Architect Vicente Juan Pascual Pastor completed this residential building in 1909 during the flourishing period of Valencian Art Nouveau in the region. The structure emerged at a time when this architectural movement was actively shaping the character of Alcoy's cityscape.
The building housed the studio of painter Fernando Cabrera Cantó, whose collaboration with the architect shaped the ornamental details throughout the structure. This artistic use reflects how Art Nouveau spaces in Alcoy were designed for creative work and daily life.
The interior remains closed to visitors, but the detailed Art Nouveau exterior and ironwork can be viewed from Sant Nicolau Street. The building is best appreciated in daylight to fully see the fine ornamental details and sculptures on the facade.
The rear section of the building contains a specialized artist studio space with dedicated architectural features designed for natural light and air circulation. This original design reveals how carefully the rooms were planned to support the painting process.
