Vixía Herbeira

Vixía Herbeira is a coastal cliff system on Spain's northern Galician coast, stretching across multiple kilometers with dramatic elevation changes. The rock faces drop sharply toward the Atlantic Ocean and define the landscape of this northwestern region.

The cliff system has long been watched and monitored by humans, as shown by a military outpost constructed in the early 1800s. This structure served to control and secure maritime activity along the Spanish coast.

The cliffs form part of the SAC Costa Ártabra protection area, reflecting the regional commitment to preserving natural landscapes for future generations.

Access is from the town of Cedeira via several hiking trails of varying difficulty, some featuring observation platforms. Wear proper footwear and check weather conditions before visiting.

The location offers views across Cape Ortegal and on clear days permits sight of the Santo André de Teixido sanctuary in the distance. This sight line connects two important points along the Galician coast and makes the location valuable as a viewpoint.
