García Sola Reservoir, body of water
García Sola Reservoir is a large body of water in Badajoz Province built on the Guadiana River, stretching about 245 meters across. The dam features seven control gates and is surrounded by rocky cliffs, pine forests, and eucalyptus trees that frame the water.
The reservoir was completed in 1962 as part of a regional project to store water for agriculture and local supply. Its construction was a major development for water management in Extremadura.
The area is easy to reach with parking near the main access points and a bar-restaurant on site. Early morning or late afternoon visits offer the best conditions for activities like walking, cycling, or bird watching.
A viewpoint called Cueva de la Mora sits about 200 meters from the dam and offers a panoramic view of the reservoir and rocky hills. From this quiet spot, visitors can watch eagles, vultures, and other birds soaring above the water and rocks.
