Cíjara Reservoir, Spanish reservoir on the Guadiana River
Cíjara Reservoir is a large body of water in the Province of Badajoz formed by damming a river, creating an expansive surface surrounded by rolling hills and vegetation. The water level rises and falls seasonally, revealing different shorelines and changing the appearance of the surrounding landscape throughout the year.
The reservoir was built in the 20th century to store water for agricultural irrigation and hydroelectric power, transforming how the region managed its water resources. The dam construction was part of broader efforts to develop the infrastructure of this area of western Spain.
The reservoir is accessible to the public and popular for water activities including boating and fishing, as well as for enjoying the shoreline. Spring and autumn offer the most pleasant visiting conditions, while summer can be very hot.
