Hospital del Rey, Medieval university building in Burgos, Spain

The Hospital del Rey features a Plateresque entrance known as the Romanos door, leading to the Faculty of Law and University rectorate.

King Alfonso VIII and Queen Eleanor of England established this building in 1195 as a refuge for pilgrims traveling on the Way of Saint James.

The wooden doors inside the church display detailed 16th-century Jacobean designs, representing scenes from medieval pilgrim life and religious symbolism.

The University of Burgos main building opens to visitors at Plaza Sobrado, with guided tours available through the tourism office at +34 947288874.

The interior wooden doors contain an unusual medieval carving depicting a female pilgrim nursing her child while walking the Camino de Santiago.
