Museo de Telas Medievales de Burgos, Medieval textile museum at Abbey of Santa María la Real de Las Huelgas, Burgos, Spain.
The Museo de Telas Medievales de Burgos displays more than 300 restored garments from the 11th to 13th centuries. These pieces are shown in a converted grain warehouse and give you a view of both everyday and formal clothing from that era.
This museum emerged from textile collections discovered during excavations at the connected monastery. Its creation came from the desire to make these fragile fabrics publicly accessible and to preserve them for future generations.
The collection comes from royal tombs in this monastery and shows how medieval court fashion looked in that era. You can see the fine fabrics and cuts that only kings and their families could wear at that time.
The museum is housed in a small building on the monastery grounds and is reachable by public transport. The exhibition spaces are accessible at ground level, though you should plan about one hour for your visit.
One of the most valued pieces is a 13th-century banner bearing Arabic script that originated from a battle. This rare find connects the history of two cultures in a surprising way.
