Iglesia del Carmen

Iglesia del Carmen is a parish church in Burgos with a modern stepped pyramidal silhouette. The building sits at the intersection of Paseo del Empecinado and Calle del Carmen near the Arlanzón River.

The building was completed in 1968 and replaced a 17th-century Baroque structure. The earlier church had been established with support from Catalina de Tolosa.

The name references the Carmelite order that shaped this parish community. Inside, modern religious art reflects how this space serves contemporary believers.

The church is easy to find at the intersection of two main streets and accessible from the river area. Visitors should check service times if they want to enter the interior during worship hours.

A relief sculpture of La Piedad created between 1610 and 1612 survives as the only artwork preserved from the original church. A large crucifix by sculptor Jaume Perelló i Miró now dominates the main altar.
