Moianès, Administrative division in central Catalonia, Spain.
Moianès is an administrative region in central Catalonia comprising ten municipalities spread across rural terrain between Barcelona Province and Catalunya Central. The area covers rolling countryside with forests and agricultural land.
The Catalan Parliament established this region as an official comarca on May 1, 2015, following recommendations from the Roca Report. The creation followed local voting results that supported the formation of this new administrative unit.
The towns here retain traditional Catalan architecture in their medieval castles, religious buildings, and stone-built centers that reflect local heritage.
The municipalities are connected by a network of hiking trails that wind through the landscape and link different towns together. Moià serves as the main hub for local services and information.
The Charco cave near Moià holds significant prehistoric remains and ancient animal fossils from the Quaternary period. The site documents early human settlement and the region's ancient wildlife.
