Casa dels Dracs

Casa dels Dracs is a four-story residential building at the corner of Sorní and Jorge Juan streets, displaying decorative facades that combine Gothic and Art Nouveau style elements. The house contains two apartments per floor accessed through a pentagonal staircase, while shops and offices occupy the ground level and mezzanine.

José María Manuel Cortina Pérez designed this residence in 1901 during Valencia's initial urban expansion following the city's 1887 building regulations. The project emerged when the city was rapidly developing new neighborhoods and architects were creating innovative residential solutions.

This residence displays Gothic and Art Nouveau details with dragon, lizard, and locomotive sculptures that blend medieval aesthetics with progress. The ornamental corner reveals a building that brings together historical references and modern design aspirations.

The building is accessed through the pentagonal staircase in its center, leading up to the residential apartments on upper floors. The ground-level shops provide a separate street entry, making it easy to observe the structure from outside while passing by or visiting the area.

Bronze dragon statues originally crowned the roof but were removed in 1925, yet four fiberglass replicas were restored in 2006. These lighter modern versions silently remind visitors of the building's decorative past.
