Marjal dels Moros, Protected wetland between Sagunto and Puçol, Spain.
The Marjal dels Moros extends across 1,200 hectares of freshwater and brackish habitats between the Mediterranean coast and industrial zones of Valencia region.
The wetland faced significant changes when rice cultivation declined in the 1990s, leading to the Generalitat Valenciana acquiring 800 hectares for protection in 1996.
The site functions as an educational center where local schools conduct field studies to learn about wetland ecosystems and water conservation methods.
Visitors can access observation points through marked paths, offering clear views of water bodies and opportunities for bird watching throughout the year.
The wetland marks the northernmost European breeding location for the marbled teal and supports critical populations of red-crested pochards.
