Teatre Novedades, Theatre in Dreta de l'Eixample, Barcelona, Spain
Teatre Novedades was a rectangular performance hall supported by columns in the Dreta de l'Eixample district. The venue featured multiple seating sections to accommodate around 1,600 spectators.
The theater first opened in 1869, and received a new building designed by architect Salvador Vinyals in 1884 at Calle Caspe. This replaced the original wooden structure from Ronda de San Pedro.
The theater presented numerous productions between 1880 and 1936, including works by Henrik Ibsen and the first Catalan performance of Filippo Marchetti's Ruy Blas.
The building operated until 2006 when it closed following its final performance. The structure was later demolished in 2017.
The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra performed their first concert at the venue in April 1901 under conductor Arthur Nikisch. This brought international recognition to the theater as a prestigious performance space.
