Platja de les Arenes, Mediterranean beach in Valencia, Spain
Platja de les Arenes is a city beach on the Mediterranean coast of Valencia, running for about 1,200 meters (about 0.75 miles) of fine pale sand alongside the port. A wide promenade with restaurants and cafes runs directly behind the sand.
The area was originally a fishing settlement whose residents lived and worked close to the port, and it kept that character well into the 20th century. Urban development along the coast gradually turned it into the city beach it is today.
The promenade behind the sand is lined with restaurants serving traditional Valencian paella and fresh seafood, drawing both locals and visitors throughout the day. Eating by the water is a deeply rooted habit here, and the terraces fill up well before midday.
The beach is easy to reach by bus from Valencia city center, and several routes stop nearby throughout the day. Arriving in the morning on hot days is a good way to find space near the water before crowds build up.
One section of the beach is set aside for visitors who want to bring their dogs, which is rare for a city beach of this size. The area is separated from the main swimming zone, making it workable for everyone.
