Poblado íbero-romano de El Monastil

The archaeological complex extends across the Torreta mountain range, bordered by the Vinalopó River and contains preserved Iberian and Roman structures.

The settlement served as Ad Ello mansio along a branch of Via Augusta, operating as a military and religious center during Byzantine and Visigothic periods.

The remains include an ancient church from the 6th century, constructed with a horseshoe-shaped apse and a baptismal pool in its elevated section.

Guided tours of El Monastil take place on selected Sundays throughout the year, except during July and August due to high temperatures.

The archaeological site reveals evidence of continuous human presence spanning three millennia, from the Bronze Age through the Islamic period.
