Las Arenas

Las Arenas is an urban beach in Getxo with fine golden sand stretching roughly 240 meters long and 25 meters wide. The shoreline sits along Biscay's coast with a promenade lined with cafés and shops nearby.

The beach was once part of a quiet fishing community before becoming a popular bathing destination in the 1900s. This shift brought more people and infrastructure to the area, permanently changing Getxo.

The beach serves as a gathering place for locals who swim, relax, and watch sailors and windsurfers practicing their skills. The connection to the sea shapes how the community spends its everyday moments.

Access is straightforward with ample parking nearby and good bus service connecting directly to the beach. Summer hours near the water can get crowded, so arriving early morning or later in the day works better.

The beach shares a clever mix: while sailors and windsurfers train on one side, a modern skatepark sits right on the sand nearby. This blend of water sports and skateboarding makes it unusual for European urban beaches.
