Pont de Príncep de Viana, Modern bridge in Lleida, Spain.
Pont de Príncep de Viana is a modern cable-stayed bridge crossing the Segre River in Lleida, extending roughly 200 meters with a prominent central pylon. The structure uses steel cables in a sweeping design that connects the two riverbanks and forms part of the contemporary urban landscape.
The bridge opened in 2010 as part of a broader plan to modernize Lleida's railway district and improve city connections. It was built to address growing transportation needs and create a direct crossing over the river for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Engineer Javier Manterola designed this bridge to integrate contemporary architectural elements while maintaining visual harmony with the surrounding urban landscape.
The bridge accommodates both vehicular and pedestrian traffic with separate sections for each use. Early morning or late afternoon visits offer clearer views of the river and surrounding city without the heaviest traffic congestion.
After dark, more than 500 integrated lights illuminate the bridge and cables in a way that makes the steel framework appear to float. This nighttime lighting transforms how the structure looks and feels compared to the daytime crossing.
