The Fountain of the Mermaid features a statue holding a conch shell from which water flows into a stone basin surrounded by rose gardens.
The current mermaid statue replaced an original nymph sculpture from 1864, with the new installation taking place in 1982 to maintain the fountain's presence.
The fountain stands as the second most visited site in Lleida after the cathedral, representing local artistry through its sculptural elements and water features.

During 2007, authorities filled the basin with stones and stopped the water flow, leading to public protests that resulted in its restoration in 2011.
