Fountain of the Mermaid of Lleida

The Fountain of the Mermaid sits in Parc dels Camps Elisis in Lleida and features a female figure holding a conch shell from which water pours into a stone basin. Rose gardens surround the basin and frame the entire fountain structure.

The original fountain featured a nymph sculpture dating to 1864. A new mermaid statue was installed in 1982 to replace it and refresh the site.

The fountain takes its name from a mermaid and displays local artistic expression through its sculptural form. Visitors can observe how the figure with the shell shapes the appearance of this public garden space.

The fountain sits within easy walking distance from downtown Lleida in Parc dels Camps Elisis. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon when the park is less crowded.

From 2007 to 2011 the fountain was filled with stones and its water was shut off, triggering public protests. The strong community response eventually led to its restoration and reopening.
