Casa Golferichs, Modernist building and community center in L'Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample, Spain.
Casa Golferichs is a modernist building at the corner of Viladomat and Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, distinguished by characteristic features of Catalan modernism architecture. Today it houses a community center with exhibition spaces and event areas that serve the neighborhood.
The building was constructed in 1901 by architect Joan Rubió for civil engineer Macari Golferichs as a private residence. During the Spanish Civil War it was briefly used as a popular university, marking an important turning point in its history.
The building hosts regular photography exhibitions and art events that draw local visitors throughout the year. It functions as a gathering place where the neighborhood participates in workshops and cultural programs that shape community life.
The center is open on weekdays with extended hours and has limited hours on weekends. Located on a major street, it is easy to reach and the building is accessible for different types of visitors.
In the 1960s, local residents occupied the building and saved it from demolition, leading to its preservation. This grassroots action ultimately resulted in its conversion to a civic center in 1989.
