Collet de Contraix, Mountain saddle in La Vall de Boí, Spain.
Collet de Contraix is a granite saddle situated at 2,748 meters elevation between two peaks in the Pyrenees. The pass connects valleys on either side and forms part of a major hiking route through high alpine terrain.
The name Contraix reflects the geological position of its valley, which stands apart from nine others in the massif by flowing from the right side of the mountain system. This distinguishing geographical feature shaped the col's name.
The saddle forms part of the Carros de Foc hiking circuit and serves as a key waypoint for trekkers moving between mountain refuges. It marks a natural divide between two distinct valleys in the region.
Hikers should bring specialized mountain gear and be prepared for high altitude conditions along with unpredictable weather. Navigation along the established trail is generally clear, but altitude adjustment is essential before attempting the ascent.
From this location, visitors can observe how two major valleys diverge and connect to different water systems within the protected area. The vantage point reveals the ridge that naturally separates these geological formations.
