Far del Fangar, Lighthouse in Deltebre, Spain
Far del Fangar is a lighthouse with a distinctive white and black striped tower standing about 60 meters tall above the Ebro Delta coast. It sits surrounded by white sand dunes and wetlands that create a stark contrast with the tower's bold markings.
The lighthouse was built in 1867 to help ships navigate the difficult waters where the Ebro River flows into the Mediterranean. This structure has guided maritime traffic for more than 150 years through this challenging waterway.
The lighthouse and the land around it became known as a film location when the music video for U2's 'Vertigo' was shot there in 2004.
To reach the lighthouse, visitors walk along a sandy path about 5 kilometers from the parking area, with autumn being the most pleasant season to visit. Bring sturdy shoes for walking on sand and allow time to explore the wetlands and observe the wildlife around the site.
The structure stands in the midst of white sand dunes and wetlands where numerous bird species gather during dawn and dusk. This setting makes it a valuable spot for nature observers who want to watch migratory and coastal birds in their natural habitat.
