Playa del Cura, Mediterranean beach in Torrevieja, Spain
Playa del Cura is a sandy beach on the Mediterranean coast of Torrevieja, running about 325 meters long and roughly 27 meters wide. It sits within the urban area of the town, making it one of the most accessible stretches of coast in the city.
The beach took on its current character during the 1960s, when Torrevieja began developing its coastline to welcome more visitors. Over the following decades, facilities were gradually added to keep pace with the growth of local tourism.
The promenade serves as a meeting place where residents spend their evenings and social interactions happen naturally throughout the year. Families and groups gather here to enjoy the sea views and pass time together.
The beach is in the center of Torrevieja and easy to reach on foot from most parts of town. Lifeguards are present during the main swimming season, and showers as well as changing rooms are available on site.
Water temperatures along this stretch of coast stay relatively warm even outside the summer months, making swimming possible well into autumn. This is partly due to the bay's sheltered position and the way Mediterranean currents behave in this part of the sea.
