Teatro Jofre, Municipal theater in Ferrol, Spain
Teatro Jofre sits on Plaza de Galicia in the La Magdalena district and displays architectural details typical of late 19th-century Spanish performance halls. The building contains multiple levels with halls and contemporary interiors from its extensive renovation work.
The architect Faustino Domínguez Domínguez designed the theater, which opened on January 1, 1892 with a performance of El Alcalde de Zalamea. Significant architectural changes followed decades later when new ownership commissioned modifications to its exterior appearance.
The theater hosts a range of artistic performances throughout the year, showcasing work by performers from Ferrol and beyond. Visitors can experience theater productions, musical concerts, and dance shows that reflect both local and international artistic traditions.
The building underwent extensive renovation in 2005 and now offers modern facilities with current technical equipment. Access has been improved to support visitors with limited mobility.
In the 1920s a new owner acquired the building and commissioned an architect to add ornamental changes to its facade. These artistic additions, including decorative masks and pilaster-like structures, continue to define the exterior of the building.
