Edificio de Correos, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Neo-Plateresque post office in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain

The Edificio de Correos in Vitoria-Gasteiz is a postal building with Neo-Plateresque styling, recognizable by its detailed stone carvings, reliefs, and sculptural ornaments that define this architectural approach. The interior received complete renovation work between 2020 and 2022 while the historical facade remained unchanged.

Architect Luis Díaz Tolosana designed this postal building, which opened in 1928 as a replacement for previous structures on the site. The Neo-Plateresque style was a deliberate choice to incorporate traditional Spanish architectural elements into a modern public facility.

The building features traditional lion-shaped mailboxes at its corner entrance, where generations of children have left letters for the Three Kings during the holiday season. This custom connects the structure to long-standing local traditions.

The building sits in a central location and is easily accessible on foot, with its facade clearly visible from the street. Those interested in the architectural details should take time to examine the stonework and reliefs up close.

Behind the building lies Nuestra Señora del Cabello Street, one of the city's smallest alleyways with its own fascinating past. The street name comes from a former hospital that once occupied that space.
