The Royal Arms Factory of Orbaizeta is a stone industrial complex arranged across three levels on a mountain slope, integrating furnaces, workshops, and water channels that powered the machinery. The Spanish Crown established this weapons factory in 1784 to secure domestic military supply and ammunition production. The facility operated for exactly one century until it closed in 1884 when production methods advanced elsewhere.
The factory served as a self-contained community where workers and their families lived in company housing alongside the production facilities. This model shows how industrial work and domestic life were deeply integrated in the late 1700s.
The site is freely accessible and can be visited at any time, though guided tours are available through the local tourism office for more detailed information.
