Waterfall of Xorroxin

The Waterfall of Xorroxin is a natural waterfall near Erratzu that creates a vertical drop where water flows over moss-covered rocks and boulders. The cascading water forms a series of pools at different levels as it descends, each catching the flow from above.

During the 19th century, local shepherds gathered at this location to water their livestock using its natural springs. This long-standing practice demonstrates how the waterfall served as an important resource for rural communities in the region.

Local communities have long associated this waterfall with water spirits in Basque storytelling, shaping how people experience the place today. The site remains important to those who know its folklore and visit with respect for these old beliefs.

Plan for a hiking journey of roughly 7 kilometers from Erratzu to reach the waterfall via a circular route that takes several hours to complete. Wear sturdy footwear with good grip, as the paths can become slippery, especially near water and after rain.

Water flow reaches its strongest during late spring, when multiple cascades drop through thick vegetation and create a fuller spectacle than at other times of year. The lush fern growth clinging to the rocks makes this season feel especially green and thriving compared to drier months.
